Achievements and future plans at AGM

Members of the Pro-Active Community (PAC) came together for their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 29th September 2021. The meeting covered a range of items and topics, looking back at the past year, what has been achieved as a charity, any issues that were faced and looked forward to and what they want to achieve.

The meeting was kicked off with Jade, Active Prospects’ Director of Care, explaining how the AGM will be conducted for the Pro-Active Community. It was explained that an AGM will be held once a year, with set meetings in between to discuss any changes to the group and how the Pro-Active Community is run.

They discussed how funding was received through Surrey County Council to support members of the Pro-Active Community and the wider community, in digital initiatives and Zoom meetings. Also, they spoke about working with Active Prospects in management of the website, Facebook page and managing accounts. Some of our members will be trained, in order to take ownership of these.

The Pro-Active Community have achieved a lot over the last year! Key things noted were:

  • Taking part in the Learning Disability England Conference 2021, and producing a video on the theme of Hope to be shared during this

  • Working with the Learning Disabilities Mortality Review Program (LeDeR), to review their 3-year strategy

  • Co-producing, alongside LeDeR, an educational video looking at health inequalities and ways in which to address them

  • Set up our own independent Facebook page

  • Recorded a range of podcasts, ranging from MP interviews and the Surrey Wildlife Trust

  • Re-started the Quality Checking program

  • Some PAC members completing the NHS England Peer Leadership Training

  • Taking part in research surrounding COVID-19

A key part of the AGM was in electing the committee for the coming year. It was great to see so many members of the Pro-Active Community putting themselves forwards for the role of Chair and Co-Chair, it shows how passionate they are as a group! Through a process of confidential voting, congratulations go to Michael on being elected as Chair and Matt on being elected as Co-Chair!

The meeting was closed by discussing aims for the future and plans going forwards. It was decided to promote the name of the Pro-Active Community, both locally and nationally, via a range of events and collaborations. This includes promoting the Quality Checking programme, which pays trained Quality Checkers to carry out quality checks of health and care settings.

It’s exciting to see what the next year holds in store and to continue to grow and campaign about what the members feel passionate about.
