Healthwatch helping with complaints and compliments for healthcare services

At yesterday’s meeting, members welcomed Adam Connelly from Healthwatch to ask their thoughts on how to make complaints or share compliments for the healthcare services they receive.

It was intetesting to hear everyone’s experiences, and who knew about all Healthwatch Surrey can support them with.

Adam took away so many points to explore, and gave positive signposts to members including the compliments and complaints processes.

Members Leanne, Emma Jane, Matthew, Jenny, Elizabeth and Robert, shared experiences of hospital and dentistry appointments, reasonable adjustments being made, but a lack of easy read hospital letters and general correspondence.

It was great to hear from so many members a real mix of mostly positive feedback and although some was negative, the chances to make a difference by raising these poor experiences to the right person, in the right way, means improvements will happen.

Empowering people to make their own complaints in the best way for them, is important. By providing the guidance who to speak to and how, supporting people to take those often daunting steps, we can influence positive and necessary change to be made.

Everyone is getting their competitive aprons on for the next meeting on February 15th, where a Ready, Steady Cook! is taking place at Surrey Choices Longmead Centre.

Thanks to Voluntary Action Reigate & Banstead Ltd. who have granted funding to create well-being resources for adults with learning disability, members are joining Include.org in celebrating together in a healthy cooking event, exploring how eating well can improve health and well-being.
