On course for success

August 6th marked a significant move towards inclusion and accessibility in adult education.

Helen joined 12 people making up the first steering group of experts with lived and learned experience of learning disability, autism or acquired brain injury at East Surrey College.

Rory Brelsford-Stewart facilitated a lively group discussion with participants from Active Prospects UK Pro-Active Community and Penny Sims from Include.org creating courses from this coming academic year.

Looking at devising courses in topics everyone chooses, for the length they would like, at a time suitable for transport and support availability.

These new courses will be reasonably adjusted in some aspects, and completely co-created from a standing start in others.

By co-producing a curriculum with those the courses are for, the involvement and commitment to attending for the duration is anticipated to be far greater than something not developed in this way.

Bravo to East Surrey College for trailblazing here, and to the adult education funding meaning this opportunity will reach additional people where this level and style of learning has not been previously possible.

Steering group 2 takes place in September where the offerings Co-created will be shared, giving participants a month to register for the subjects the College decide to proceed with.
