Time to speak up!

Speaking to over 30 people, Chair person Leanne shared the importance of Hospital or Care Passports, visual signage, easy read documentation, and a raised awareness of learning disability.

“Letting people know about care passports and how to find their liaison nurse is important.”

Opening up to the group gave opportunity for a lot of questions only an expert by lived experience could really share with such authenticity.

A packed room of Voluntary Charity Social Enterprise organisations and healthcare representatives joined the event to also discuss rural transport issues, Domestic Abuse services, Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF), the upcoming merger of Tandridge Voluntary Action and Voluntary Action Reigate & Banstead, to become VARES later this year, and to exchange relevant ideas.

Networking meetings have become a very vital part of broadening the learning disability awareness amongst healthcare professionals. Pro Active Community members take every chance to close the gap in knowledge by answering as only someone with lived experience can.

Leanne said, “…it was great to catch up with Jayne White Tony Freeman, Sara Beadle and so many other charities from across this area”
