The Pro-Active Community meet via Zoom

With the recent lockdown, the Pro-Active Community face to face meetings have temporarily been postponed with the interest of keeping vulnerable members of the group safe. However, with many of us using technology to keep in touch nowadays, we thought it might be a great idea to try and get as many people together as possible to catch up via Zoom.

So, on Thursday 7th May the Pro-Active Community met via Zoom for the first time! The meetings are usually held every two weeks at Active Prospects’ head office.

The meeting turned out to be a huge success, with loads of people joining from their homes or where they are staying at the moment during the pandemic. Similar to how a normal meeting is run, Lizzie the Pro-Active Community Chair, started with welcoming everyone and then doing some Makaton. There was a full packed agenda including sharing outstanding stories, discussing gardening, and sharing easy read Coronavirus advice.

I thought the meeting was really good. Everyone was able to speak when it was their turn and ask questions at the right time too so no one was talking over one another.
— Leanne, Pro-Active Community Treasurer

Everyone had their chance to speak about what they have been up to, with a lot of people cooking, some people helping their parents around their houses and others just relaxing enjoying boxsets they have always wanted to watch.

The meeting was brilliant as it was a great opportunity for people in the group with learning disabilities, mental health needs, or autism to simply just catch up with one another and share how they are feeling at the moment. It was a chance to connect and do something different during their lockdown days.
